Let's create a community and support one another.
Parents Connect brings parents and caregivers together in small groups to talk about the challenges they face raising children with mental health struggles.
It was really nice to have an understanding group of parents to be able to bounce thoughts, struggles, and ideas off of each week. A group of parents who don’t judge your parenting or your child’s conditions can be difficult to come by, but Parents Connect provided that to me.
New Groups Starting in early 2022
Who: Parents Connect is for any parent or caregiver who is navigating life with a child who is struggling. We discuss what's going on at home, the puzzles you are trying to solve, and the things that are on your mind. Examples: helping a child cope with anxiety or depression, when to consider medication, parenting an unpredictable child, what supports to ask for in school, and figuring out the next right steps.
Why: When parents and caregivers connect and learn from others in small, confidential groups they feel less alone, knowing that there are other people who are walking in similar shoes. Within the supportive cohort, participants can share comfortably and discover new strategies and different perspectives. We hope participants will find a network of parents to talk with during and beyond the six-week program.
What: Parents Connect is made up of groups of four to eight parents with children in the same age range. This six-week program brings each cohort together weekly for a one-hour, confidential conversation. Groups are facilitated by a fellow parent (not a trained therapist) who has experienced mental health issues with their child.
How: If you are interested, complete this Google form with some basic information including possible meeting times. Groups are created based on children’s ages and your availability.
When: Groups will meet on a regular schedule either in person or via Zoom.
